6月4日のサークル

今回から活動場所が鶴見中央地域ケアプラザ（YMCA) に変わりました。
職員さん達は親切で、特にトラブルもなくスタート。

今回は事前に先生からメールされた資料を使って、スピーチなしでフルタイムレッスン。
資料のセンテンスの青文字は覚えるべきキーワード、緑文字は短縮して発音。Reviewページの赤文字は回答で、赤い透明シートをかぶせて見えなくして exercise します。
# 実際には赤いシートをかぶせても、うっすらと見えます。(^^)

以下、レッスン内容です（以前のレッスンと重複する内容は割愛）。
資料を見ながら読んでください。下記のページ番号は、印刷した時のページ番号です。印刷の仕方によっては、ずれるかもしれません。

P.1

That jacket is expensive as hell. Who can afford it?

as hell = very
男女に関係なく、会話で日常的に使われる。
　 ビジネスシーンでは使わない。


Don`t forget to unplug the curling iron before you leave. I don`t want to come home and find my house burned down to the ground.

burned down to the ground
"to the ground" は強調。意味は "burned down" と同じ。

burn 〜 down / burn down 〜
　　人が燃やした時は、objectは burn と down の間にあってもいいし、後ろにあってもいい。
　　自然に燃えた時は、objectは burn と down の間。


Nobody knows for sure, but some people around the neighborhood are saying that he passed out drunk with a lit cigarette in his hand.

passed out drunk : 酔いつぶれる
　 文法的には drunkenだが、あまり使わない。

　He's drunk 　・・・ 今、酔っている
　He's a drunk ・・・ いつも酔っている

I put the fire out.

put the fire out ： 火を消す

I hate that asshole. I wouldn`t piss on fire to put him out.

asshole ： 嫌いなヤツ
　 面と向かっては言わない。本人がいない時に使う。

I wouldn't piss on fire to put him out. = I would never help him.
この言い回しは、女性はあまり使わない。


This is my last match, so if the candle burns out it`ll be pitch-black in here.

　pitch-black : 真っ暗


I owe my friend some money, so I don`t want to go any place that I could possibly run into him at. He`ll be bugging me to pay him back and I just don`t have the money right now.

run into him at
末尾の at はなくてもいいように思えるが、会話では必ずつけるとのこと。

bugging ： 困らせる

I can`t read my book in peace because my kids won`t stop bugging me.

because ： 会話では cuz と発音


I don`t have any money.
　お金が全くない、または、今持っていない。

I don`t have any money on me.
　今持っていない。

I don`t have the money.
　〜するお金がない。


I ran into my friend.
　友人に偶然会う。

I came across my friend.　
　（酔いつぶれたりして）倒れている友人を偶然見つける。
　　　come across は、モノを偶然見つけた場合に使う。普通の状態の人に偶然会った場合には使わない。


It started raining all of a sudden.

　all of a sudden は常に文末につける。

Onetime, I saw a man laying on the grass in front of my house and I thought he was dead but he was just passed out drunk.

laying on : 文法的には lying だが、「ウソをつく」と紛らわしいので、会話では laying を使う。

今回は冒頭から先生の英語が全開。資料は印刷しただけで全然見ていなかったので、最初はちょっとあせりました。たまには「スピーチなし、フルタイムレッスン」も緊張感があっていいですね。
